Acer today officially unveiled its new line of M Series Ultrabooks with Windows 8 which will be offered exclusively in Best Buy stores throughout the United States. The Aspire M5-481PT is equipped with a 10 point multi-touch display, allowing users to open and close programs or browse through applications using simple touch and gestures. Acer claims the M5, which is housed in a metal chassis of either aluminum alloy or magnesium alloy (depending on configuration), will deliver 8 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Aspire M5-481PT: 14-inch Simplicity
The Aspire M5-481PT features a new 14-inch, 10 point multi-touch display, allowing users direct on-screen control over Windows 8 and its applications.  The HD display is a “frameless” style with edge-to-edge glass maximizing the amount of space dedicated to the Ultrabook’s multi-touch interface.

The 14-inch Aspire M5-481PT is less than one inch thin and weighs 4.6 pounds featuring a silver screen cover made of aluminum alloy.

Aspire M5-581T: 15-inch Powerhouse
The Aspire M5-581T includes much of the same design elements but includes a larger 15.6-inch HD display without touch. This 15-inch Ultrabook is also less than one inch thin but is housed in a dark gray magnesium alloy chassis and tips the scales at about 5 pounds.

Both the Aspire M5-481PT and M5-581T Ultrabooks are equipped with 3rd Generation Intel Core i5 processors with Turbo Boost Technology 2.0. A 500GB hard disk drive offers plenty of space for large files, and an additional 20GB integrated solid state drive (used for pre-cache) delivers instant-on capability to both Ultrabooks.

Both laptops include two USB 3.0 ports with the ability to charge devices while the PC is in sleep mode and backlit keyboards for typing in dark environments. The Aspire M5 Series features a built-in optical drive and HDMI port allows for connecting to your HDTV or externaal monitor. The M5 Series also features Dolby Home Theater v4 audio and stereo speakers.

As with the recently announced S7 Series Ultrabooks, all models in the Aspire M5 Series include Acer AntiTheft, a free software based solution that recognizes when the Ultrabook moves beyond 10 feet of the signal from a designated Wi-Fi signal source and activates a loud siren from the Ultrabook’s speakers.

Pricing and Availability
The Acer Aspire M5 Series of Ultrabooks will be available at Best Buy stores across the U.S. on Oct. 26.  Prices for the Aspire M5-481PT featuring Windows 8 and touch support begin at $799.99, while the 15.6-inch Aspire M5-581T configurations begin at $699.99.
