Two new Acer Aspire notebook series will be released later this week, the Aspire Ethos AS8951G and the AS5951G; both are consumer multimedia notebooks, and according to Acer each are built to handle the full entertainment spectrum, including gaming. The 8951G features an 18.5-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) display while the 5951G features a 15.6-inch HD display (1366 x 768). Both displays consist of Corning Gorilla scratch-resistant glass.
A completely new Acer concept is the inclusion of a detachable touchpad that doubles as a remote control with media buttons. The controller/touchpad has LED buttons to control audio and video, and can be used horizontally and vertically.
The Ethos 8951G features Acer CineSurround sound and Tuba CineBass subwoofer, and five Dolby speakers. The 5951G has True 5.1-channel surround sound output, two speakers, and the Tuba CineBass booster. And, we know that Dolby announced that its audio enhancing software would be included in all new Acer Aspire Ethos multimedia notebooks at CES back in January.
As far as specs go, the notebooks will have Intel Core i5 dual-core processor and Core i7 quad-core processor options, up to 16GB of RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics with 2GB of DDR3 VRAM. The notebooks will feature an all-black design with a brushed aluminum/magnesium alloy cover, and will have both matte and glossy surfaces.
