Acer America today announced the new Aspire R7-572 ($899.99), the second generation of Acer’s R7 notebook series that features a unique Ezel-Hinge design. The Ezel-Hinge allows the display to flip, reverse, lie flat or float above the keyboard … essentially letting you use the screen any way you want.

New features include a 4th Generation Intel “Haswell” processor for increased battery life and performance, more RAM (8GB standard and expandable to 16GB) and a larger hard drive (1TB).

The R7-572 can be used with an optional Acer active stylus ($49), made by N-trig.  Customers can write notes, markup documents or photos, draw pictures or make simple lists directly on the R7’s full HD touchscreen, just as if they were using regular pen and paper.

Some of the most popular applications supporting the N-trig active stylus technology include all the Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Photoshop and Autodesk Sketchbook (for drawing). The stylus provides high accuracy, hover capabilities and 256 distinct levels of pressure sensitivity for artists and people who demand more precise control. The new R7 notebook also uses software and hardware-based palm rejection so your hand won’t interfere with what you’re writing.

The R7-572-6423 configuration is a full featured notebook PC featuring Windows 8.1 with a 15.6-inch Full HD (1920×1080) touchscreen display with IPS technology, a 4th Generation Intel Core i5-4200U processor, 8GB of memory, a 1TB hard drive,  and a full-size backlit keyboard.  It also includes a dedicated volume control button, HDMI port, SD card reader, audio jacks, three USB ports, Wi-Fi, WiDi wireless display, Bluetooth and a converter port supporting VGA, RJ45 and USB.

The R7 can be used as a traditional notebook, a large table top tablet, a display, or switched into “Ezel” mode, allowing the screen to float over the keyboard at various angles. Dual hinge technology allows for single-hand switching between modes and keeps the display stable even when you touch the screen.
