May has passed and with it a shakeup in our top 10 notebooks. The Lenovo T60 and Sony Vaio SZ retain control of the top two spots but after that we have four new entrants and Apple even owns two spots with their MacBook and MacBook Pro. Dell lost two units, but added two new ones to keep their manufacturer lead of 4 notebooks in the top 10.
Lenovo today has released an update to its Z-series widescreen ThinkPads in the form of the ThinkPad Z61m, Z61t and Z61e. The ThinkPad R-series budget ThinkPad notebook is also now updated with the ThinkPad R60 release. All three notebooks feature the Intel Core Duo processor as an option.
In another sign that the Lenovo is trying to shake things up and sell more laptops, the company will today announce ThinkPads and the new 3000 series laptops will go on sale in Best Buy retail store locations across the U.S.
Gateway today announced the M255-E and NX260X 14.1-inch screen notebooks. The M255-E / NX260 will have the Intel Core Solo or Core Duo processor options. The M255-E and NX260 are essentially the same except that the M255-E is a business version while the NX260 is consumer. The M255-E will compete with such notebooks as the Dell Latitude D620 and Lenovo ThinkPad T60 14-inch screen laptops.
Just when you thought all laptops were starting to look the same in terms of features, it appears Lenovo is working on some ThinkPads with Star Wars character R2-D2 type functionality and Superman flying capabilities.
