Bezels on flat screen displays are mere millimeters away from becoming nonexistent.
Commercial-grade LCD displays are being produced with thinner and thinner bezels, thanks to new advancements in the technology, making them ideal for usage in applications like video walls.
“Advancements in technology in both LCD and plasma have allowed for the spacing between adjacent displays to almost disappear,” said Chris Connery of DisplaySearch, a display market research and consulting group. “New, thin bezel LCD technologies can be used in ways never thought of before.”
The spacing in between displays in the flat-panel, commercial LCDs from major companies like Samsung, NEC, LG, and Sharp currently range from 15 mm to less than 5 mm.
Previously, the only options for video walls were rear-projection DLP or direct-view LED displays. With narrow-bezel LCDs becoming an option for such an application, certain disadvantages like the low resolution of LED displays would no longer be a problem.
