Top Five SMB MFPs: Review Roundup

by Reads (3,888)

These days, no one buys a major technology purchase – computer, TV, camera – without doing some research. Well, the same should go for buying a printer. These devices are more complex than ever with so many features and functions that it can be hard to narrow down a style of printer.

That’s why the staff of PrinterComparison is sharing their top five picks every month in a different class of printer.  This month, we’ll be taking a look at multifunction printers and sharing our top five choices for small and medium sized businesses (between $400-$800).

1. HP Officejet Pro X576dw

HP Officejet Pro X576dw

You don’t often see inkjets make a SMB MFP Top Five list, at least not on our site.  But the HP Officejet Pro X576dw is the first inkjet – or SMB MFP for that matter – that I’ve seen print quality pages at 70 ppm. Granted, it’s on the higher end of the price bracket at $799.99 but with an all-star lineup of features, it’s worth considering.  Oh, and it won our Editor’s Choice Award!

2. OKI MB471w

OKI MB471wThe OKI MB471w is a monochrome multifunction printer and decidedly less flashy than some of the other models on this list but you can’t beat the one-two combo of reliability and affordability that the MB471w brings to the table.  With print speeds up to 35 ppm, a front side USB, a 3.5-inch LCD, built-in networking and automatic print, scan, copy and fax duplexing for less than $500, the MB471w is a worthy competitor.

3. Brother MFC-8710dw

Brother MFC-8710dwThe Brother MFC-8710dw monochrome multifunction printer is the most affordable option on the Top Five list with the suggested retail price of $399.99 but it still offers plenty of features for SMB.  Offerings include: print speeds up to 40 ppm, front side USB port, automatic duplexing, 50-sheet automatic document feeder and network connectivity.

4. HP LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn

HP LaserJet Pro 400 M425dnThe HP LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn offers print speeds up to 35 ppm, a print resolution up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, a monthly duty cycle up to 50,000 pages, web-connected applications, HP ePrint, a front side USB port, 50-sheet ADF and built-in Ethernet for $499. The LaserJet Pro 400 M425dw offers all of the above plus wireless connectivity for an additional $30.

5. Samsung CLX-4195fw

Samsung CLX-4195fwThe Samsung CLX-4195fw is a color MFP that excels in two important categories: ease of use and print quality.  Inititally, I was shocked that the CLX-4195fw didn’t offer automatic duplexing when the suggested retail price was over $600 but with the new lower price of $449, the CLX-4195fw found its way on our list.
