Printer Tip No. 2
Stretching your consumables
Unlike most devices, the initial cost for the printer is much, much less than what you’ll spend on consumables over the lifetime of the printer. Add up ink or toner cartridges, paper, maintenance kits, energy consumption, accessories and extended warranties and you can easily be spending in the thousands.
But there are ways to stretch your consumables and get more for your money. Consider printing in ‘draft’ mode or ‘toner saver’ mode except for the “essential” documents, lock color printing rights on business models and print multiple slides/pages on a single sheet when presenting.
Printing multiple slides or pages on a single sheet can also conserve paper; save additional paper by using the automatic or manual duplexing feature, print preview documents before hitting print and take advantage of scanning and PC fax functionalities on multi-function or all-in-one devices.
Conserve energy by using the sleep mode on your device or try setting aside time once or twice a day (depending on your print volume) to print all documents/images necessary. The less models using toner have to warm up, the less energy consumption.
