OKI Data Americas announced the MB401 monochrome MFP series earlier this summer as a solution for small and medium sized workgroups looking for business centric features at a low cost of ownership.

Today, we’ll be sharing our hands-on first look of the middle of the road option, the MB471/MB471w. We have the MB471w wireless version in for review, but the two models share a print engine and the same specifications.

So get a feel for the MB471w as we go through build, design, specifications, pricing and more and make sure you come back soon to check out our full review of the OKI MB471w MFP.

Build and Design

If you are familiar with the OKI product lineup, you’ll recognize the MB471w by the trademark mixture of grays and boxy design. But a major selling point for the MB401 series is the compact footprint and compared to past models, the MB471w does seem to tighten up with the approximate dimensions of 17 x 17 x 18 inches.

The MB471w features a 50-sheet reverse automatic document feeder on top of the single sheet flatbed scanner, a huge perk for businesses who want to scan, copy or fax double sided letter or legal sized documents without taking the time to flip the job.

The control panel runs across the front of the MB471w and offers a 3.5-inch adjustable LCD, a full QWERTY keypad, quick keys, front side USB port and programmable speed dial. Admins can assign individual PIN IDs to employees restricting access to only needed functions.

Lift up under the control panel and press the round gray button on the left side of the output tray to access the 2-piece consumable configuration made up of the black toner cartridge and the imaging drum. The design allows customer to replace the toner cartridge when needed.

The 100-sheet multipurpose tray pulls out from the front of the MB471w with the 250-sheet paper cassette residing beneath. Customers can add an optional 530-sheet tray bringing the total paper capacity to 880 sheets.

All connections are found on the back of the device. The MB471w is the only model in the MB401 series to offer wireless connectivity, but all four models offer 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet and USB 2.0 connections.
