HP Photosmart 5520 Review: First Look

by Reads (7,687)

HP introduced its annual spring lineup of printers last month with the Officejet 150 Mobile All-in-One inkjet printer stealing the show. But another inkjet AIO was also released the Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One inkjet.

The Photosmart 5520 offers consumers print, scan and copy functionality along with HP’s signature web-connected applications and ePrint service, a 2.65-inch touchscreen, print speeds up to 11 ppm, automatic duplexing and wireless connectivity.

Today, we’ll be sharing our hands-on first look of the HP Photosmart 5520 where take readers through the build, design, specifications, pricing and availability plus plenty of photos from our test lab. And don’t forget to check back in for the full review coming soon!

Build and Design

The Photosmart 5520 is a step down from the Photosmart 7510 we reviewed in March in both features and price, but it also offers a more compact footprint which I always consider a plus. In non use, the approximate dimensions are 18 x 22 x 6 inches, but you’ll want to have at least 10 inches of additional space for when the output tray is extended.

The box itself has the trademark HP look: sleek black exterior, decent sized touchscreen control panel (2.65-inches), a small memory card reader and a small HP logo.

Flip open the slim lid to access the 8.5 x 11.7-inch flatbed scan glass. The Photosmart 5520 has an optical scan resolution up to 1200 dpi and offers digital scan-to features including scan-to email.

Lift up under the lip to access the inside of the device and the four cartridge ink system. HP includes a starter set of 564 ink cartridge (CMYK) but customers can also purchase high capacity 564XL replacement cartridges.

The Photosmart 5520 does not offer automatic paper sensor technology on its fold out 80-sheet input tray, but you will find standard duplexing and borderless printing.

All connections are found on the back of the printer. Customers can choose from a hi-speed USB 2.0 or wireless connection.
