Go Mobile This Summer with the HP Officejet 100 Inkjet

A couple of months ago we covered a news story pointing to a survey by the IDC that proved that the need for mobile printing is on the rise. The business professionals of tomorrow are demanding that their cell phones and tablets have extended mobile printing capabilities, and likewise, demand the most out of their mobile printers.

Mobile printing is still a newer type of technology, introduced as a way to keep professional productivity levels balanced while traveling. In this special edition of our summer technology buyers guide, we will take a look at all that the HP Officejet 100 mobile printer has to offer.

The Officejet 100 single-function printer makes printing “on the go” possible by imploying open wireless Bluetooth technology and a detachable lithium-ion battery. The printer is currently on sale for $249.99 through the HP online store. In our review, we said that it is probably the smallest inkjet device we’ve seen measuring in at just 14 x 7 x 3 inches while closed and weighing in at less than six pounds with the battery attached.

Features of the single-function inkjet include a 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution when printing from a computer, PictBridge port, monthly duty cycle of up to 500 pages and a 50-sheet rear feed tray. It is also under an HP 1-year limited warranty and is Energy Star qualified. It calls for HP 98 Black and 95 Tri-color ink cartridges.

We tested the Officejet 100 and found that it can print an average of 7 ppm in black under the default setting and an average of 3 ppm in color. During our print quality tests, we thought the printer did “an excellent job with the black and white text documents and the mixed documents,” and that the result was clear and vibrant color and text. The included ink cartridges printed 279 pages before the tri-color ink cartridge ran out of ink (closely followed by the black ink).

Check out our review of the HP Officejet 100 for a more in-depth look at the build and design, the included software and for a look at the print quality of its scanned printouts and photographs.

Taking Your Business on the Road

Unfortunately, since the HP Officejet 100 mobile printer is the only one of its kind that can print on 8.5 x 11-inch paper without restrictions, we cannot give a second mobile printer recommendation at this time. However, take a look at our high-yield ink cartridge and battery recommendations below to get all that you need while on the go for work.

For high-yield print cartridges, check out the compatible HP 94 Black for $16.66 or the HP 97 Tri-color cartridge for $39.99. Those prices are subject to change.

All batteries lose power eventually. Avoid mishaps by purchasing a second HP Li-ion battery at the price of $79.99 for your Officejet 100 mobile printer. The battery allows users to print up to 500 pages per charge. It will automatically recharge when the printer is plugged into an outlet.
