Epson Artisan 725 first look

When Epson announced the new Artisan all-in-one printers in August, I was more intrigued by the Artisan 725 than the flagship Artisan 835 for one simple reason: color. Epson planned on shipping the Artisan 725 in the standard black design but also in an all white version aptly named the Arctic Edition.

So when it came time for us to review the Epson Artisan 725, I had to get my hands on the special Arctic Edition, I see all black designs constantly. Plus, the two models are identical in the features category so this review is just as applicable to those of you out there that may prefer the more subtle Artisan 725.

Today, we’ll be taking a hands-on first look of the Epson Artisan 725 Arctic Edition with plenty of product shots, build info and specifications. Not enough for a purchasing decision? Check back soon for our full review of the Artisan 725!

BUILD AND DESIGN
So in case you didn’t read my intro, the Epson Artisan 725 comes in two colors: the traditional black and the Arctic Edition white. Both models have identical dimensions: approximately 18 x 26 x 6 inches and weighing in just over 21 pounds.

The Artisan 725’s design is very similar to the previous generation Artisan 710 with the major difference being an upgraded touch panel with a 2.5-inch screen compared to the Artisan 710’s more traditional control panel with actual raised keys. The “quick key” designations remain the same; the Artisan 725 offers a home quick key, a navigation pad, start and stop keys and a power key among others.

The Epson Artisan 725 features a 48-bit flatbed color scanner with a maximum resolution up to 9600 x 9600 dpi interpolated and a maximum scan/copy size up to 8.5 x 11 inches. Epson offers several scan features including coloring book scans from old photos, scan to USB flash drive and scan to PDF.

Lift the middle of the machine to access the six individual Hi-Definition Claria dye-based inks (CMYK plus Light Cyan and Light Magenta). Epson includes five standard capacity 99 color ink cartridges and one high capacity 98 black ink cartridge in the original packaging.  They also offer a high capacity version of all five colors.

Like the Artisan 710, the Artisan 725 can hold up to 120 sheets of copy paper in the cassette and 20 sheets of photo paper in the adjoining photo tray. The CD/DVD tray is found above the two paper trays and can be accessed by pressing the CD Tray key on the control panel.

To the right of the paper trays, users will find the built-in memory card reader with a PictBridge/USB slot that can charge devices such as cell phones and MP3 players. The Artisan 725 supports the following memory cards: SD Memory Card, SDHC Memory Card, MiniSD, MicroSD, Mini SDHC, Micro SDHC, MultiMedia Card, MMCplus, MMCmobile, MMCmicro, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo, Memory Stick MagicGate, Memory Stick Duo MagicGate, Memory Stick Micro (M2), xD-Picture Card, xD-Picture Card Type-M, xD-Picture Card Type-M+, xD-Picture Card Type-H, Compact Flash, Compact Flash Type I, II and Microdrive V (some cards need optional adapter).

All connection ports are found on the back of the Artisan 725 along with removable duplexing unit.
