Canon Pixma iP7220 Review: First Look

by Reads (3,997)

Canon introduced a new line of Pixma photo inkjet printers in December hoping to capitalize on the peak holiday retail season. We got to handle all the new printers at CES 2013 and now it’s time for us to start sharing our reviews!

We are starting with the single function Pixma iP7220 Wireless Photo Printer. The iP7220 steps it up a notch over the previous generation Pixma iP4920 offering quicker print speeds at 15 ppm in black and white and 10 ppm in color, a print resolution up to 9600 x 2400 dpi, ChromaLife100 + ink system with five inks, automatic duplexing, CD/DVD printing and wireless connectivity.

So take a hands-on first look with us today and make sure you come back soon for the full review!

Build and Design

The Canon PIXMA iP7220 features sleek new design elements including the snap-edge opening for easy access to the device’s ink cartridges and front loading paper cassettes (nixing the rear paper tray) so that customers can push the printer flush against the wall, saving space.

The dimensions for the Canon PIXMA iP7220 are 18 x 15 x 5 inches in storage mode (you’ll add a few inches to the front with the output tray extended) and the approximate weight without consumables comes in just a hair over 14 lbs.

As a single function printer, the Pixma iP7220 is pretty simple to use. The control panel consists of three options to the left of the self-extending output tray.

With the tray pulled out and the front top flipped open, users can snap open the edge to reveal the five ink cartridges. Canon includes the standard capacity PGI-250 black and four CLI-251 color cartridges in the original packaging. Users can purchase high capacity PGI-250XL and CLI-251XL replacement cartridges.

Both paper cassettes and the CD/DVD tray pull out from under the output tray. The CD/DVD tray is inserted using the snap edge opening.

All the connections are found on the back of the Pixma iP7220, but since they are recessed into the device, it can still be placed flush against the wall as previously mentioned.
