Best Creative Inkjets for the Home and Dorm

by Reads (3,081)

It’s April and that means the spring holiday trinity is right around the corner.  Yep, I’m talking about Moms, Dads and Grads!  Over the next two months, a onslaught of parties will be held and who wants to arrive empty handed?

That’s where we come in.  Obviously, a new printer is on the top of every Mom, Dad or Grad’s list of ideal presents and we want to make sure you pick the right one!  Today, we’ll be sharing our top five creative inkjets for the home or dorm and all five choices fall under $200!

1.  Epson Expression Premium XP-800

Epson Expression Premium XP-800

The Epson Expression Premium XP-800 offers many of the same features as the previous generation Artisan 837 including fax functionality, built-in memory card reader and front side USB, CD/DVD printing and built-in wireless, but Epson has increased the print speeds, upgraded the control panel and added a duplexing 30-sheet ADF.  Plus, you get the excellent photo quality you expect from high end Epson inkjets. Technically, the Expression Premium XP-800 retails at $279.99 BUT Staples has it for $179.99 this week!

2. HP Photosmart 7520

HP Photosmart 7520The HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One is similar to the previous generation Photosmart 7510 in more than just looks. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing because all the things I loved about the Photosmart 7510 — quick print speeds, HP ePrint, web-connected apps, large (and responsive) touch screen and creative options — I love on the Photosmart 7520. And I found the photo print quality to be improved.  For the current asking price of $149.99, it’s a steal!

3. Brother MFC-J4510dw

Brother MFC-J4510dwThe Brother MFC-J4510dw is the only inkjet on this list that offers prints up to 11 x 17-inches AND offer a super compact footprint (Brother claims it is 35 percent smaller than competitor’s models). And despite being targeted at the SOHO market, the MFC-J4510dw offer plenty of cool features including: 3.7-inch Swipe TouchScreen Display and TouchPanel, web-connected applications, mobile apps, 20-sheet automatic document feeder, automatic duplexing and network connectivity.

4. Kodak Hero 9.1

Kodak Hero 9.1The only thing holding the Kodak Hero 9.1 back is the fact that Kodak is exiting the inkjet business, leaving customers to wonder how long they might support their exsisting products.  BUT, Kodak is still selling their released products through Wal-Mart and plan on continuing their ink cartridge sales so I think it’s still a safe bet, especially since it’s a PrinterComparison Editor’s Choice Award winner!  Creative options include: 3D printing, fun effects, HD movie prints, great software and more!

5. Canon PIXMA MG4220

Canon PIxma MG4220
The Pixma MG4220 is a noticeable upgrade from the Pixma MG4120 including a larger LCD and reworked control panel as well as a new softwarepackage with intuitive features. Canon has also improved the usability of their mobile print and web connected applications from a year or two ago.
Most importantly, the quality for this $129.99 budget friendly photo printer still remains top notch and the compact footprint fits in nearly any home or dorm room.
