The more boxes under the Christmas tree the better! The more boxes under your HDTV... not so much. Sure, they might be home-entertainment goodies like an Xbox 360, Roku, Blu-Ray player, DVR, and cable box, but those clunky containers and the spaghetti tangle of required cords are unbecoming of an ultra-sleek and thin HDTV.
Being that he can cram billions of gifts in a red sack, Santa understands the value of consolidation and space saving, which is why he is bringing Boxee TV on this day of Christmas. Boxee TV is an unlimited cloud-based DVR, smart TV hub, and cable box in one, all for the low, low price of $99.99.
What a great gift! You must have been a good little boy or girl! Or not. You see, Santa Clause gives way to the Boxee clause this holiday season, which states that the Boxee TV can't deliver premium pay channels (Boxee only works with unscrambled ClearQAM channels, which means you'll need another cable box for HBO), requires an antenna for over-the-air channels, and that no-limits cloud DVR is only available in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, L.A., New York, Philadelphia and D.C. this Christmas, with more markets to come at an unspecified date. On top of that, the DVR service that costs between $10 and $15 a month is only able to record the basic network programming (NBC, ABC, Fox, Telemundo, etc).
It's not all coal, however. The Boxee is small and attractive, with an excellent user interface. And it ships with free Netflix, Spotify, and Vudu credits. DesktopReview even called it, "A pretty box that makes your TV smarter," in a full Boxee TV review.
Still, on this day of Christmas, you might want to ask your Santa for a gift receipt.
