On Microsoft's October 26th launch date for Windows 8, Hulu plans to roll out a new app for TV viewing from PCs, optimized for the touch-enabled, tile-based interface of the new operating system (OS).
"The [new] Hulu Plus app uses a tile-based view common to the new Windows UI. This will make it easy for you to find the latest episode[s] of the shows you want to watch, but also to discover new ones," contended Patrick Srail, Hulu's senior product manager.
"Launching the app presents you with an immersive panorama of your favorite shows and episodes laid out in a wide canvas," he wrote, in a blog post this week.
If you "touch an image and gently slide it down and up -- called 'selecting' -- a menu of options will appear [which] let[s] you share, add, and play anything you'd like," said Srail.
Beyond the ability to select either a show or a clip by touching an image, Hulu Plus for Microsoft's Windows 8 will permit you to "pin" your favorite shows to the Start Menu for one-touch access to a show.
When future episodes of that show become available on Hulu Plus, images of the new episode will appear directly on the icon. To access the new episode, all you need to do is tap on an image, according to Srail.
Through another new Windows 8-centric feature, known as "Snap View," you can view TV shows on Hulu Plus in a small screen while working in another app -- to answer emails or write a report, for instance -- in a larger screen.
Hulu, of course, is unlikely to be the only vendor of PC entertainment software to release an edition optimized for Windows 8. As one indication, an app from Netflix -- Hulu's main competitor -- comes pre-installed on some Windows 8 pre-release demo PCs, including units from Toshiba.
In another software product category, also early this week, Skype pre-announced a Windows 8 edition of its videoconferencing app, also to be rolled out on October 26.
