HP Pavilion dm1-4010us: Our Deal of the Week

The dm1 received our Editors' Choice award for being a great netbook alternative; it performs better than most netbooks in the market while being just about as small and lightweight as one. It carries a rounded "clamshell" design and hardened black plastics with silver accents. In our review we said the build quality is above average for a budget-class 11-inch notebook.

The dm1 has a nearly full-sized Chiclet-style keyboard with extra space between the keys to prevent against typos. In our review we said typing is very comfortable and the keyboard support structure is solid. The Synaptics touchpad is just as good; we said that it "delivers adequate sensitivity at the default settings with minimal lag."

When the dm1 got its update, the processor also got renewed; the new E-450 dual-core processor is a slightly faster CPU than its predecessor, the AMD E-350. During our performance tests we found that the dm1 is even capable of playing DirectX 11 games - if only moderately. For comparison purposes, when we ran our full system performance benchmark, it out-performed the Lenovo ThinkPad X120e. The notebook also has 4GB DDR3 of memory, a 320GB Hitachi hard drive at 7200 rpm, and an AMD Radeon HD 6320 graphics card.
