Intel Intros New Sandy Bridge Processors

Intel has added several new processors to its current 'Sandy Bridge' Core i-series lineup. New models include faster i7 dual- and quad-cores and a faster i7 Extreme Edition.
The following new processors have been introduced:
| Processor | Cores/Threads | CPU Clock | Turbo Boost to... | TDP | Bulk Price |
| Core i7-2960XM | 4/8 | 2.7GHz | 3.7GHz | 55W | $1,096 |
| Core i7-2860QM | 4/8 | 2.5GHz | 3.6GHz | 45W | $568 |
| Core i7-2760QM | 4/8 | 2.4GHz | 3.5GHz | 45W | $378 |
| Core i7-2640M | 2/4 | 2.8GHz | 3.5GHz | 35W | $346 |
| B840 Celeron | 2/2 | 1.9GHz | N/A | 35W | $86 |
The Core i7-2960XM is the fastest quad-core mobile CPU on the market, replacing the slightly slower i7-2920XM. Naturally it is also the highest-priced mobile processor available. Due to its high TDP of 55W, it is only available in select notebooks that can handle the extra heat (read: 17.3-inch+ desktop replacements).
The other processors are virtually identical to current processors with only a slight bump in clockspeed. The Celeron B840 is a budget CPU; it lacks hyper-threading and will be found in inexpensive ~$500 notebooks.
Expect to see these processors make an appearance in existing notebooks soon.
