Acer America today expanded its line of low-cost netbooks to include the Aspire One Happy 2, a series of lightweight netbooks available in four colors. The marketing team at Acer must have spent a few too many hours at a smoothie shop since all of the colors for the new Aspire One Happy 2 have unique names like "Banana Cream," "Blueberry Shake," "Papaya Milk," and "Strawberry Yogurt." On the plus side, those playful color names will probably make this new Acer netbook all the more fun and appealing to children and women who are the target market for these stylish, ultra-light, mobile PCs.
The More Things Change ...
In addition to the new colors, the Aspire One Happy 2 netbook features a screen lid with a glossy finish and a textured liquid "water ripple" pattern making this netbook feel unique under your fingers compared to the typical boring budget netbook. However, like all those other netbooks on the market the Aspire One Happy 2 has a 10.1-inch LCD screen, Intel Atom N570 dual-core processor, integrated Intel graphics, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity and up to 8 hours of battery life. The netbook itself is only 1-inch thin and weighs just over 2-1/2 pounds.
Those common netbook specs should provide the computing performance necessary for basic applications like Microsoft Office and web browsers, so you won't have trouble staying in touch with work or social networks while you watch the latest YouTube videos. You'll also be able to video chat with family and friends using the a built-in 0.3 megapixel webcam and built-in microphone which Acer claims has been enhanced to keep background noise levels low and minimize echoes.
Last but not least in the list of features, the Aspire One Happy 2 netbooks come with 1GB of DDR3 memory and a 250GB internal hard drive for storing your digital photos, videos, music and documents. It also includes Windows 7 Starter and Microsoft Office Starter 2010 so you can start using the netbook right away without needing to install too much extra software.
Pricing and Availability
The Acer Aspire One Happy 2 Series Netbooks are available now at leading U.S. retailers for a MSRP of $269.99. These netbooks come with standard one-year parts and labor warranties, which can be extended to three years with the Acer Advantage service. All Acer notebooks and netbooks are backed by toll-free service and support.
Be sure to visit NotebookReview again in the coming weeks as we hope to have a full review of this affordable netbook soon.
