AMD Begins Shipping "Llano" Accelerated Processor Unit

AMD has announced it has begun shipping its 32nm quad-core Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), which essentially combines a processor and a graphics card into one chip. Code-named "Llano," this APU will likely be used in a variety of laptops during 2011. In short, laptop shoppers can expect to see a variety of affordable notebooks offering high performance with an AMD sticker on the box during the back-to-school season.

The YouTube video below from AMD details the capabilities of Llano and what it will bring to computing.

The Llano APU will be officially launched later this quarter. Llano is an advancement of the company's current Fusion APU. Check out our review of the Lenovo ThinkPad X120e and the HP Pavilion dm1z featuring AMD Fusion to see what the current technology is capable of.

Systems with Llano are expected to be available this quarter.
