Elsewhere on store shelves, holiday shoppers will find four new mainstream Aspire laptop lines announced today: the 15.6-inch Aspire 5742G starting at $750, the 15.6-inch Aspire AS5745 starting at $650, the 17.3-inch AS7745 starting at $800, and the Aspire AS8943G starting at $1,449. The most notable among the new intros is the $999 Aspire AS5742DG model, which features an Intel Core i5 processor, Nvidia’s new GeForce GT 420M graphics, and Nvidia’s 3D Vision technology. The other 15.6-inch model announced today, the AS5742G, doesn’t do 3D, but its 2D graphics can automatically switch between integrated and discrete graphics, thanks to Nvidia’s Optimus technology. The 17.3-inch AS7745 features quad-core Core i7 processors and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics.
Rounding out the new Aspire offerings is the 18.4-inch AS8943G. This high-end desktop replacement features quad-core Intel Core i7, ATI Radeon 5850 graphics with 2GB of VRAM, and a huge display capable of 1080p playback.
