Acer, MSI announce laptops on AMD's new platform

AMD promised its new 2010 Mainstream and Ultrathin platforms would show up on many laptops this summer (135, to be exact), and Acer and MSI are doing their part to validate the underdog chipmaker's claims. Acer announced a trio of laptops based on AMD's 2010 Ultrathin platform, two Aspire One netbooks and an ultraportable Aspire model, while MSI has unveiled a 12-inch Wind model.

The Acer Aspire One 521 is a 10.1-inch netbook that features the single-core 1.2GHz AMD V Series V105 processor, 1GB of memory, and a 160GB hard drive. The Aspire One 721 bumps you up to an 11.6-inch screen and a dual-core Athlon II Neo K325 clocked at 1.3GHz. The Aspire 1551 also features an 11.6-inch display but more robust specs, including the dual-core 1.5GHz Turion II Neo K625 and 2GB of memory. All three models feature an HDMI port and integrated graphics by way of the ATI Radeon HD 4225 chip, which is capable of 1080p HD playback.

Meanwhile, MSI took the wraps off of the Wind U250, a 12.1-inch laptop based on AMD's 2010 Ultrathin platform. The MSI Wind U250 features the Athlon II Neo K325 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive.

Acer and MSI have yet to share pricing details.
