Intel introduces dual-core Celeron for notebooks

Intel has introduced a dual-core Celeron processor for notebooks. The $80 T1600 and $86 T1700 are built on a 65nm process, have a 35W TDP, and a 667MHz FSB. They have clockspeeds of 1.66GHz and 1.83GHz respectively. Both support Intel Enhanced Speedstep power-saving technology, Executive Disable Bit, and Intel EM64T 64-bit.

New Clevo gaming notebook leaked

Clevo, a second-tier Taiwan-based notebook maker known for its high-performance notebooks, has a new model in the pipeline. The M98xNU has the following (unofficial) specifications:

  • 18.4-inch Full HD (1920x1080) display
  • Mobile Intel quad-core processor support
  • Nvidia MCP79 chipset
  • DDR3-1333 RAM support
  • Nvidia Hybrid Power/Hybrid SLI/Hybrid Performance video card modes
    • Integrated Nvidia video card for power saving
    • Dual Nvidia 9800M-GTX video cards for maximum performance

The M98xNU is thought to be a replacement for Clevo's older M590K 19-inch SLI notebooks which debuted several years ago. Clevo will most likely announce new notebooks at the CeBIT 2009 tech show in Germany. For more information on Clevo, please see the Clevo Guide in the forums.

Acer outperforms ASUS in netbook shipments

According to a recent report from DisplaySearch, Acer outpaced ASUS in netbook shipments during the third quarter of this year. Acer shipped 2.15 million notebooks (38.3% market share) compared to ASUS' 1.70 million (30.3% market share).

Fujitsu hard disk business for sale

According to a Wall Street Journal story, Fujitsu is looking to sell its hard disk business. Fujitsu ranks sixth in hard drive sales and has a 6.6% market share. The company is currently producing hard drives at a loss.
