Dell launches Design Studio

Dell this week unveiled the Design Studio, an interactive gallery of original contemporary artwork for customizing Studio 15 and 17 notebooks. Over 100 artworks are offered; images are permanently tattooed on the laptop's lid. The customization costs $75.

AMD global notebook share may drop

AMD's notebook share may dip below its current 12-13 percent to less than 10 percent next year according to a DigiTimes report. A key reason is the increasing shipments of Intel Atom processors, which are commonly fitted in netbook computers; AMD has no official netbook platform yet. Although AMD may be going after the netbook market with its Yukon and Congo platforms next year, notebook makers are unlikely to make the switch from Intel to AMD.

ASUS reduces notebook shipment goal, netbooks hold steady

ASUS has reduced its notebook shipment goal for 2008 from six million units to 5.6-5.7 million. However, its netbook shipments will hold steady at five million units. ASUS will not ship as many notebookss as anticipated in the fourth quarter due to reduced demand.

Kingston introduces HyperX DDR3 notebook memory

Kingston today introduced HyperX DDR3 So-DIMM memory for notebooks. HyperX is enthusaist-class memory and targets the high-end market; it features low latency and high performance. The HyperX DDR3 So-DIMM memory is available in a 4GB kit (2x 2GB) for MSRP of $228. The So-DIMMs feature heatsinks to help dissipate heat. The HyperX DDR3 So-DIMMs are shipping now, though only in the U.S.
