HP dv3000 13.3" notebook uncovered

HP's first 13.3-inch entertainment notebook has been unveiled. It is based on the current Intel Santa Rosa platform and features Penryn 45nm Core 2 Duo CPUs as well as the older 65nm Meroms, an Nvidia GeForce 8400M-GS graphics card (256MB), up to 4GB of RAM, and apparent support for a second hard drive. It has a widescreen display with a WXGA (1280x800) resolution. It weighs 4.92 lbs and runs Windows Vista.

The dv3000 is expected to reach Asia in May starting at $1,399; there is no information on a U.S. release date or price.

Acer low-cost PC to undercut 2nd gen Asus Eee PC


Acer's upcoming low-cost Asus Eee PC competitor is expected to undercut it by about $50 according to sources at notebook manufacturers. The Acer low-cost PC is expected to cost around $250 - $300 to make and will sell for an estimated $350 - $400. The 2nd gen Asus Eee PC is $50 higher in cost and selling price. Like the 2nd gen Eee PC, the Acer low-cost PC features an 8.9-inch display.

Dell rugged Latitude E6400 ATG leaked

The rugged version of the recently-leaked Latitude E6400, the E6400 ATG, has also been leaked. It is slated to be launched in June and features a dust-proof, shock-proof, spill-proof, humidity and altitude resistant design. It will be based on the upcoming Centrino 2 mobile platform. It has an ultra-bright 750cd/m2 (650cd/m2 for the touchscreen) display, GPS, UWB, DisplayPort, and other goodies.

HP updates business notebook line with Penryn

HP has officially introduced the new 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo Penryn processor to all of its Professional (P) and Workstation (W) business notebook lines. The new processors are now available in the 6910p, 8510p, 8510w, 8710p, and 8710w. The T8100, T8300, T9300, and T9500 are offered. This is great news for those waiting to pull the trigger on one of these machines.

WiMax called a disaster by technology pioneer
CEO of Australia's first WiMax operator Garth Freeman talked at the International WiMax Conference in Bangkok about the failures of the technology. He says that his company's WiMax network, which was deployed over a year ago in Australia, had horrible performance problems; the performance was abysmal just 2 kilometers away from the base station. Its poor latency made activities such as VoIP almost impossible.

Fujitsu introduces 320GB 7200RPM hard drive

Fujitsu today introduced its new MHZ2 BJ series 2.5-inch SATA hard drives for notebooks. The top model is the 320GB 7200RPM model, now the fastest notebook hard drive on the market. It has a standard 9.5mm height, a 3Gbps SATA interface, and a 16MB cache. The new drives will go on sale in June.

Fujitsu U810, P1620, S6510, T2010 get SLED Linux Certification

The Fujitsu LifeBook U810, P1620, and S6510 notebooks and the T2010 tablet PC have received Novell YES Certification for SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) Linux distribution. Despite the certification, Fujitsu is still selling the LifeBooks with Windows only.
