CeBIT 2007: Clevo Shows off Two NVidia 8800 Laptops (pics)

At CeBIT 2007 I saw a lot of handshakes going on at the Clevo booth. Those handshakes were exchanged between Clevo and the companies scrambling to sign contracts to sell the D900C and M570RU NVidia 8800 powered notebooks as their own.

Clevo M570RU

The M570RU will be using the next generation Mobile chipset from Intel -- Santa Rosa. It will feature NVidia Go 8800 graphics when the card eventually gets to market. At CeBIT Clevo was demoing the M570RU unit with an NVidia Go 7950GTX card. You can look at the specs and see they'll soon be offering a DirectX 10 card though -- Clevo reps at the show confirmed it would be the 8800 card.

The M570RU is quite a looker actually. It's a 17" widescreen display (WXGA) that has a glossy finish. I really liked the orange trim of the notebook though, it really offset the notebook's look well.

The M570RU will offer a sub woofer and SRS 3D sound via the two speakers built-in. It will also offer 802.11n wireless since it uses the latest Intel wireless chipset.

Clevo D900C

We covered the D900C in an earlier article, there was some controversy as to whether it would have the NVidia Go 7950GTX card or the next generation NVidia 8800 graphics card. Clevo reps confirmed that at the moment it is using the 7950GTX card, but that it will come equipped with the DirectX 10 compatible 8800 card as soon as it is released. Graphics should be upgradeable as well since it's using MXM technology.

The D900C differs from the M570RU in that it uses the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme desktop chipset -- not a mobile chipset and processor. This is a bold move on the part of Clevo and will make the D900C the most powerful notebook in the market, at the cost of being one of the hottest and most power hungry as well.

The design of the D900C is a little more plain than the M570RU unit, but other notebook sellers will be changing the design to their own liking, so don't expect to see it always sold in this all black look you see in the pictures.

The Windows Vista Performance Index rated the graphics at 5.9 and processor performance at 4.9, some rather high scores that will get even better with a higher clocked CPU and the newer NVidia graphics card when they're inside this system.

Opening up 3DMark revealed that the notebook on display is using NVidia Go 7950GTX graphics, but according to Clevo this will change to 8800 in time.
